Enchanted Rock and Its Cave

Kris Carlgren and I head up to Fredericksburg, Texas on a wet and slipperly day.

We made it to the top and traversed about 1/2 of the cave that runs through the back of the big granite dome.

A panoramic view of Enchanted Rock.

[ 002 ]

The entrance to the cave.

It's marked by a white arrow.

[ 003 ]

This shot is from just past the first arrow and not actually in the cave proper.

[ 004 ]

Trees and rocks around the cave entrance.

[ 005 ]

This smallish hole is the highest entrance to the cave and where we entered.

[ 006 ]

Kris navigates the first sort of room.

He went first the whole way. = )

[ 011 ]

Yes. We actually crawled through all these little spaces in the rock.

[ 012 ]

Many of the rooms were tall enough to stand in.

Kris squeezes through a tight spot.

[ 016 ]

A promising looking hole which is actually a dead end is clearly marked by some helpful person.

This is me.

I'm wet and a little scraped up.

I look a little stoned in this picture for some reason. = )

Big rocks everywhere.

I could make a joke here about Kris holding up a huge rock that had started to slide off the dome.

However, that would be so lame.

I think you should apologize to me for thinking I would do such a thing.

For shame!

[ 028 ]

A smaller rocky outcrop rises next to the main dome.

Many of the rocks are huge as you can tell from this picture.
